Privacy policy
Short version: we don’t sell your data, we don’t run ad trackers right now, and we don’t need an account from you.
What we collect
- Server logs. Like every website, our servers and our network provider record technical data (IP address, browser, pages requested) to keep the site running and secure. Logs are kept for a limited time.
- Reactions and polls. When you react to a story or vote in a poll, we store the count. To stop repeat voting we keep a one-way, salted fingerprint of your network address for up to 7 days. It can’t be turned back into your address and isn’t linked to anything else.
- Your device. Your browser remembers your light/dark choice and which reactions you’ve used, in local storage on your device. It never leaves your device.
- Tips and messages. If you use our tip line, we keep what you send (and your name or email only if you give them) so editors can read it and reply.
Embeds
Videos from YouTube only load when you tap play. At that point YouTube’s own privacy policy applies (we use YouTube’s privacy-enhanced mode).
Kids
NewsThat.Rocks is for readers 13 and older. We don’t knowingly collect information from children under 13.
Changes and contact
Questions or requests about your data: contact us.
Optional analytics
We use Google Analytics 4 only after you choose “Accept analytics.” Until you accept, or if you reject, its tag does not load. Google receives technical and page-visit information to help us understand how the site is used. We do not enable Google Signals or advertising features. Google may process this information outside your country; see Google’s privacy policy.
Analytics may set the cookies _ga and _ga_6Y6DGH4PNM, configured to expire 180 days after the last visit. Your choice is stored for 180 days in ntr_analytics_consent_v1 on your device. Use the “Cookies” button to change your choice. Rejecting disables measurement and removes accessible Analytics cookies. Global Privacy Control and Do Not Track override a saved acceptance. Reading, sharing, reactions and polls work without analytics consent.
Reader tools and comments
When you choose Save for later, article titles, links and save dates are stored on this browser for up to 90 days, with a maximum of 50 items. You can remove them in Saved stories or clear browser storage. They are not uploaded or synchronized. The clip worksheet does not upload or persist your input.
Comments submitted to WordPress include your display name and comment, an optional private email, and technical information such as the IP address and browser user agent used for moderation and abuse prevention. Comments wait for review; the display name and approved text become public. The existing Cloudflare Turnstile protection checks the submission.
After analytics consent, we may measure successful saves, source/feed clicks, reading completion signals, tool use, reactions and votes. These events do not include comment text, email addresses, worksheet input, calculator amounts or saved-story lists. Rejecting analytics leaves these features available.
