The tea in 3

  1. Asmongold's Olympus guild grew so large in the World of Warcraft: Forever beta that it split into dozens of numbered guilds.
  2. Players made addons like OlympusMute to hide chat, invites and trades from members; Asmongold called it "a hate crime or racism."
  3. Sodapoppin said Olympus players are "very obnoxious"; Blizzard had not commented as of Sept 25.

Asmongold’s guild in the World of Warcraft: Forever beta got so big that other players built a tool to make it disappear. The addon, OlympusMute, hides chat, whispers, invites and trade requests from anyone in an Olympus guild, and Asmongold’s reaction to it became the story.

What is Olympus?

Olympus is Asmongold’s community guild on the Alliance side of the WoW: Forever beta. According to Clownfish TV, it grew so large it had to split into dozens of numbered guilds; a preview screenshot of the addon showed tags as high as “Olympus XLI,” the 41st. Clownfish says Asmongold has put the total at more than 10,000 members, and that nobody outside Blizzard has a real count.

Beta players complained about crowded zones and lag in Stormwind, per Clownfish citing Dexerto. GameRant adds that some Olympus members spam trade and general chat, according to the addon’s creator.

The mute addons

  1. An addon called AsmonMute appears on CurseForge, filtering messages that mention “Olympus” or “Asmongold.”
  2. OlympusMute goes viral after a WoW content creator shares it on X.
  3. Coverage notes that Blizzard has not commented.

Per Clownfish, OlympusMute hides Say and Yell messages, whispers, Trade chat and raid warnings from anyone in a guild with “Olympus” in its name, and auto-declines their guild invites, group invites, duels and trade requests. It only runs on the user’s own game. The addon’s creator, Solastro, said in an interview, per GameRant, that Asmongold and his fans can be unbearable in public chat.

What Asmongold said

This is either a hate crime or racism, I’m not sure which one yet.โ€” Asmongold, per Dexerto, as reported by Clownfish TV

Clownfish describes his reaction as not entirely serious. GameRant reports he also called for ways around the block.

Sodapoppin weighs in

GameRant reports he is playing Horde to avoid the chat spam from Olympus members when he plays Alliance characters.

A banned guild master

Asmongold learned of it during a stream.

Where it stands

Per Clownfish, Blizzard had made no statement about Olympus or the mute addons and had not blocked either as of Sept 25. The addons are still around, and the beta runs up to the Nov 4 launch. Whether Blizzard acts is the open question.
