What the deal covers

The agreement is between Netflix and Druski’s company, 4LIFERS Entertainment, to develop and produce original series. The Verge, citing the Netflix press release, says Collect & Praise is the first of “several original projects.” Variety describes the deal as covering original content exclusively for Netflix. TheWrap reports that WME brokered it.

Netflix is also licensing “select content” from his catalog: Coulda Been Love, Coulda Been Daddy and Coulda Been Records Auditions. TheWrap adds his comedic skits to that list. Variety says those series, posted directly to YouTube, have drawn more than 1 billion views combined.

Acquired, not commissioned

Deadline reports that Collect & Praise was self-funded before Netflix acquired it. The show began life as the “Mega Church Pastors Love Money” sketch, per Deadline.

On The Diary of a CEO, Deadline notes, Druski said Netflix had turned down “multiple different projects” of his over the years. His line about the change: “Now, it’s a bidding war.”

I’ve built my platform by creating characters and comedy that resonate with people. This partnership with Netflix will give me the resources to build on that comedy foundation and bring my work to a new global audience.— Druski, in a statement, Nov 2

Druski’s big year, in order

  1. Livestream From Hell, with Kevin Hart and Kai Cenat, lands on Prime Video.
  2. Puck and Variety report he will host SNL.
  3. Netflix announces the deal and the Dec 1 date.
  4. He hosts SNL, billed by TheWrap and Variety as the first digital creator to do it.
  5. Collect & Praise streams on Netflix.

Variety also lists the 2027 rom-com The Catch, with Emma Stone and Chris Pine,. TheWrap says he is developing the movie The Diggers with Kenya Barris.

What a deal like this means for sketch creators

Deadline’s reporting is the useful detail here. It says the deal covers a set number of projects, not a traditional overall or first-look arrangement. That is Deadline’s understanding, not a published term, but it suggests a narrower commitment than “multi-year deal” implies.

The Verge puts it in a pattern: Netflix has also brought in YouTubers including Mark Rober, Ms. Rachel and Good Mythical Morning. For a creator who already owns the characters and has a back catalog, the path in this case was: build on YouTube, self-fund a show, then sell it.

Confirmed vs. not yet

Confirmed: the Dec 1 date, the Druski and Epps casting, the logline, the licensed catalog titles, the SNL date. Not announced: episode count, episode length, financial terms, how many projects the deal includes, and what the next ones are.

What to watch

Dec 1 will show how the semi-scripted format plays outside short-form video. After Nov 7, watch whether Netflix names the next project. Netflix has not said whether anything beyond Collect & Praise is in production.
