iJustine hosts Carnival’s Play Carnival Twitch stream Nov 15, with viewers steering

iJustine will play the lead in Play Carnival, a live Twitch stream from the cruise ship Carnival Celebration on Sunday, Nov 15, at 10:30 a.m. ET, Carnival Cruise Line said in a Nov 5 release. Viewers vote on where she goes and which challenges she takes on, and the stream is also set to run on Carnival’s Instagram and TikTok.

Carnival’s Twitch channel is twitch.tv/carnivalcruise. The company calls it the first cruise line to run an interactive livestream on Twitch.

How does Play Carnival work?

It is built like a video game. Per Carnival’s release, iJustine is “the player.” She moves through the ship taking on challenges while viewers vote on her destinations and side quests. Carnival Fleet Cruise Director Erin Weigand is her co-pilot, passing along what chat picks and introducing new challenges.

A live “Fun Meter” tracks the energy, and the mission is to keep it above zero. iJustine is also working toward a Cruise Director badge. Parts of Carnival Celebration and destinations from Carnival’s Paradise Collection are written into the gameplay as challenges and side quests, according to the release.

What can viewers win?

Carnival says the experience includes a chance to win a Carnival cruise. The release does not spell out entry rules, so check Carnival’s social accounts before Nov 15 for the details.

Why is a cruise line on Twitch?

Carnival ties the stream to its “Carnival Is Calling” brand platform and its “Find Your Fun Again” campaign, and says the stunt sets the stage for more new Carnival work ahead of wave season. Michael Sotelo, Carnival’s vice president of brand, product and social media, said the company is looking for “new ways to push the boundaries on how we connect with consumers.”

Tubefilter, which reported the stream on Nov 5, frames it as part of a wider creator-and-travel trend and says Gen Z travelers have helped cruising rebound from its COVID-era low.
