After 12 years and 115 episodes, the flirty-casual interview show is ending, and Netflix is getting it the same day as YouTube.
The tea in 3
- Chicken Shop Date's final series premiered Oct 2 on YouTube and Netflix at the same time.
- The show has run 12 years and 115 episodes with guests from Andrew Garfield to Billie Eilish.
- Netflix also licensed past episodes, per Variety as reported by Tubefilter; it is unclear whether that covers all 115.
Amelia Dimoldenberg’s Chicken Shop Date is heading into its grand finale, and the last season is streaming on both YouTube and Netflix. The final series premiered on her YouTube channel on Oct 2 and was set to hit Netflix the same day, at the same time, according to Tubefilter. The Post reports the rest of the final series will release on both Netflix and YouTube.
How we got here
Dimoldenberg debuted the series on YouTube in 2014, when she was 20, per a profile in The Post, a student paper at Ohio University. It began as a way to spotlight South London rappers and grime artists, with the first date featuring MC Ghetts at a Chicken Cottage. Over time, the guest list widened to actors and global stars.
Tubefilter lists past guests including Andrew Garfield, Billie Eilish, Jack Harlow, Louis Theroux, Daniel Kaluuya and Cher. The Garfield episode is one of the most popular, following a viral red-carpet moment in 2022. In 2023, at the Golden Globes, she asked him to sign a piece of paper that turned out to be a best friends certificate, and he finally sat down for a proper date in 2024.
What Netflix is getting
Per Tubefilter, which cites Variety, Netflix has also licensed past episodes, including Dimoldenberg’s interviews with Garfield, Harlow, Damson Idris, Central Cee, Sabrina Carpenter, Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman. It is not clear whether Netflix gets all 115 past episodes or only a selection, and Tubefilter says there is no mention of her other projects, like the Formula 1 series Passenger Princess.
Dimoldenberg said in a statement that the journey was “all about connecting directly with people who love the show,” and that partnering with Netflix expands the catalog’s reach “without losing our original essence.”
Why YouTube is watching
Tubefilter says deals like this are not what truly worries YouTube; the bigger concern is Netflix backing new, exclusive shows with creators such as Salish Matter, Alan Chikin Chow and the Stokes Twins. Whether Dimoldenberg’s deal goes beyond licensing is unknown, and Tubefilter itself labels any talk of a bigger development deal as speculation.
The first final-series date
The Post reports the final series opened with musician Role Model, who talked about his new album and his habit of pulling an audience member on stage to dance. The rest of the guest list for the final episodes had not been announced at the time of that report.
New episodes will arrive on both platforms through the final series. After that, the show lives on as a library, and what Dimoldenberg does next is the open question.
