The viral boy band Boy Throb performed with all four members together for the first time on Oct 16, after Darshan Magdum arrived in the United States. The free “Darshan Day” event was held at the American Dream mall in East Rutherford, New Jersey, according to Dexerto.

The premise

Boy Throb began posting in October 2025. Anthony Key, Evan Papier and Zachary Sobania performed pop covers in matching pink tracksuits while Magdum, who is from India, joined remotely. Hindustan Times reports the group gained a million TikTok followers in a single month, and that the concept was to rewrite song lyrics to persuade the US government to approve his visa application.

Reason quotes some of that, including a version of a Sabrina Carpenter song with the line “Oh I’d like Darshan to be in the USA,” and a Christmas parody walking through the O-1 visa process. The O-1 visa is for people with “extraordinary abilities.”

The timeline

  2. Magdum first applies for the visa, per Reason.
  3. Live shows and a “Rehearsal Tour” continue, with Magdum appearing on Zoom.

  5. Darshan Day at American Dream.

Dexerto, citing NPR, says officials asked for more evidence supporting his O-1B application. The band responded by staging live shows with Magdum appearing remotely and by collaborating with Kesha on “DJ Turn It Down,” which was included in their response.

Darshan Day

At the mall, the band performed as a complete four-piece instead of using video calls and cardboard cutouts, Dexerto reports. The group livestreamed Magdum’s journey from the airport and planned to debut its single “4gether” in person. A fan’s Reddit account, cited by Dexerto, described Key lifting Magdum into a hug and spinning him around when he appeared.

Is it a real band?

The group’s setup fueled speculation that it was an elaborate internet stunt, including theories connecting them to comedian Nathan Fielder, according to Dexerto. The members have repeatedly said their musical ambitions are real, and Hindustan Times says they addressed the “satire” questions in a social media post while acknowledging their videos are playful.
