Instagram now lets you put posts you’re tagged in on your main grid

Collabs without the awkward reposting: the original stays put and you can remove it any time. Also new: limits on unlabeled AI profiles.

The tea in 3

  1. Instagram began rolling out an option on Sept 10 to add posts you're tagged in to your main profile grid.
  2. The original post stays where it is, and you can remove it from your grid anytime.
  3. Separately, Instagram said Aug 31 that accounts featuring AI-generated people without an "AI-generated profile" label could see reduced reach.

Instagram will now let you put posts you’re tagged in on your own profile grid. TechCrunch reported the rollout began Sept 10, solving the problem of reposting someone else’s group photo yourself, which “feels a little awkward,” as the outlet put it.

How it works

You can add a tagged post from the DM notification you get when you’re tagged, from the post itself, or from your Tagged tab. Social Media Today says you’ll see an “Add to grid” option, and the post then shows on your grid with a tag icon in the top right of the thumbnail. The original post stays where it is, so nothing is deleted or duplicated. You can remove it from your grid anytime, and it stays in your Tagged tab.

  1. Get tagged in a post.
  2. Tap to add it to your grid from the notification, the post or your Tagged tab.
  3. Remove it later if you change your mind.

Why creators care

Instagram says the feature could be useful for creator collaborations and brand campaigns, where several creators can highlight the same tagged content without republishing it or using the “Invite collaborators” option, per TechCrunch. Think trip photos, event recaps and brand-deal posts: the content lives in one place, but everyone can show it.

Part of a run

TechCrunch lists other recent profile and editing tools: “Reorder your grid” (introduced in June), “First Draft” and “Replace Audio.”

The AI profile label

In a separate announcement on Aug 31, TechCrunch reports, Instagram renamed its “AI creator” label to “AI-generated profile” and said it will start limiting the reach of accounts that feature AI-generated people without saying so. Creators who use the label won’t be penalized just for having an AI-generated subject. Instagram says people who use AI only to edit photos, polish captions or make graphics don’t need the label.

What happens next

TechCrunch says the feature is rolling out, so you may not see it yet.

What this means for your feed

Expect more profiles to show the same collab photo or brand-deal video in the same place, since several people can now feature one post without reuploading it. If you tag friends often, they get the choice. If you’d rather keep your grid your own, nothing changes unless you tap to add a post.
