Valkyrae is taking time away from streaming after the death of her nephew. The streamer shared the news with her viewers on Oct 11, then posted on X on Oct 12 that she is leaving town for a few days to be with her family.

She hasn’t said when she’ll be back, and that’s completely OK.

What happened

On Oct 11, Rae was playing R.E.P.O. with other creators during a 48-hour marathon stream when a notification came in on her phone, according to Dexerto and USA Today. She turned off her camera and told chat, “I think I have to end stream. I’m sorry, chat. I need to mute.”

She then shared that her nephew had passed away. “It’s my half-brother’s son. He was so young,” she said, adding that he was only two years younger than her, per USA Today.

What she shared

The next day, she posted a longer message to her community on X:

X · Valkyrae @Valkyrae
grief is complex, wether inevitable loss is slow or sudden. It’s something we all will experience so sharing my own story and hearing others is comforting.. knowing that you’re not alone, knowing I’m not alone. I’m leaving town for a few days to be with my family. This being the way I end a marathon was unexpected so I’ll say now, thank you for the endless support. Streaming has been incredible and I love how much people enjoy watching just as much as I do entertaining. Thank you to my friends and community for being empathetic and loving. I will always be endlessly grateful. Take care and tell your loved ones you love them

In it, she wrote that sharing her own story and hearing others’ has been comforting, “knowing that you’re not alone, knowing I’m not alone.” Earlier this year, she also shared that her brother had died in February, Dexerto reports.

Where things stand

As of Oct 13, Valkyrae had not announced a return date, according to Dexerto, and USA Today said it had reached out to her for further comment. We’ll leave the rest to her.

If you want to help

The kindest thing is the thing she asked for: give her space, and, in her words, “tell your loved ones you love them.”

Our thoughts are with Rae and her family.
